Combined Graduate Level Examination (2014 Syllabus)



Divided into three different parts:-

(1) Combined Graduate Level (Preliminary) Examination
(2) Combined Graduate Level (Main) Examination
(3) Personality Test/Interview

Combined Graduate Level (Preliminary) Examination 

All Questions will be of Objective type.
Language of Question paper (Test Booklets) for both the parts in Preliminary Exam will be available in both in English and Hindi .

SYLLABUS:

Part A :  General Intelligence & General Awareness

a) General Intelligence: This portion will have both verbal and non verbal type questions. This part will have questions on :-

  • analogies,
  • similarities and differences,
  • spatial visualization,
  •  spatial orientation,
  •  problem solving, analysis,
  •  judgement,
  • decision making,
  • visual memory,
  • discrimination,
  • observation,
  • relationship concepts,
  • arithmetic reasoning,
  • verbal and figure classification,
  • arithmetical number series,
  • non-verbal series,
  • coding and decoding,
  • statement conclusion,
  • Syllogistic reasoning etc.

b) General Awareness: Questions in this portion will be focused at testing the candidates’ basic awareness of the environment around him and its application to society.

Part B : Arithmetic: Questions on this part will be based on:

  • problems relating to number system,
  • computation of whole numbers,
  •  decimals and fractions,
  •  relationships between numbers,
  •  fundamental arithmetical operations,
  •  percentage, ratio and proportion,
  • averages,
  •  interest,
  •  profit and loss,
  •  discount,
  •  use of tables and graphs,
  •  mensuration,
  •  time and distance,
  • ratio and time etc. 

Combined Graduate Level (Main) Examination :

Scheme A: The main examination will consist of two part components

  1. Part I : Written Examination, and
  2. Part II : Personality Test wherever applicable.

Part I: Written examination (This Examination is held in two sessions every day)

  • Paper I: General Studies Questions in this paper will include General Awareness as well as General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability.
  • Paper II: English Language(Conventional type):Questions with paragraph writing, report writing etc. will be included in this portion.
  • Paper III: Arithmetic: This will include questions of
    1. problems relating to number system,
    2. computation of whole numbers,
    3.  decimals and fractions,
    4. relationships between numbers,
    5.  fundamental arithmetical operations,
    6.  percentage, ratio and proportion,
    7.  averages, interest,
    8. profit and loss,
    9. discount, use of tables and graphs,
    10. mensuration,
    11. time and distance,
    12. ratio and time etc
  • Paper IV: Language Comprehension (English) - Comprehension and writing ability etc. would be tested.
  • Paper V: Communication skill/writing ability - Short essay, précis, letter writing etc would be included.
  • Paper VI: Hindi - Questions on short essay, précis, paragraph/report writing; grammar (sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, phrases and idiomatic use of words, etc.) would also be included in this portion.

Part II: Personality Test/ Interview (100 marks)

The interview/personality test is designed in such a way that the Candidate’s interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability etc. will be judged.
