PROBLEMS ON NUMBERS

   In this chapter we will learn operation on number. Practice the example using the formulas and rules which we have learnt in our previous chapters called number system and simplification.

Here we give some examples on Problems on Numbers :

Example 1 : If the sum of two numbers is 78 and their product is 1517, then find the difference between the numbers ?

Solution:

Let, the numbers be x and y.

then, x + y = 78 and xy = 1517

We know, (x - y)² = (x + y)² - 4xy

So, (x - y) =√{(x + y)² - 4xy}

or,  (x - y) = √{(78)² - 4×1517} = √(6084 - 6068) = √16 = 4

Example 2 : Find the number when multiplied by 24 is increased by 483 ?

Solution :

Let, the number be n. Then, 24×n =  n + 483

So, 24n = n + 483

or, 24n - n = 483

or, 23n = 483

or, n = 483/23 = 21
